Jared Christian Recognized in Collegiate Who’s Who

Jared Christian, a senior at Hampden-Sydney College, has been recognized as an outstanding campus leader in the 2012 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

Jared has served as the New Media Coordinator in the Dean of Students Office. He is a member of the Society for College Journalists, the College Democrats, the Spanish Club, the Physics Club, and the Chess Club. Jared has served on the student radio station, WWHS. He was the recipient at Opening Convocation in August 2010 of the President’s Award for Scholarship and Character and was recognized for leadership in the 2011 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. A computer science major, Jared is a graduate of Queen Anne’s County High School and is the grandson of Ellis & Grace Rustand of Chestertown.

Twenty-one students from Hampden-Sydney College were selected for this year’s edition. Students are nominated by seniors, administrators, faculty, and coaches based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities, and potential for continued success. They join a select group of students from more than 2000 institutions of higher learning in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and several foreign nations. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934.

A private college for men, Hampden-Sydney is ranked in the top tier of liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The College is known for its liberal arts curriculum, the Honor Code which stresses individual and collective responsibility, and a focus on the needs of young men.

Jared Christian Named Elections Chairman

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA – On Monday, February 6, 2011, Jared Christian, a junior at Hampden-Sydney College, was appointed the Chairman of Elections and Student Surveys.

Jared is a member of the Society for College Journalists, the College Democrats, and the Spanish Club. He has previously served on the Elections and Student Surveys Committee and on the student radio station, WWHS. He was the recipient at Opening Convocation in August 2010 of the President’s Award for Scholarship and Character. Jared was recognized for leadership in the 2012 edition of Who’s Who among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

As Chairman of Elections and Student Surveys, Jared handles all elections within the Student Government. He also conducts student opinion polls on issues discussed in the college community. Student government, first introduced at the College in 1886, is an historic and respected institution.

President’s Award for Scholarship and Character

At Opening Convocation on Thursday, August 26, Jared Christian, a junior at Hampden-Sydney College, received the President’s Award for Scholarship and Character.  The award was presented by President Christopher Howard.

This award is presented to a junior who has excelled in the classroom at Hampden-Sydney College and who also demonstrates the quality of character that enriches the Hampden-Sydney College community life.

Jared is Technical Director for the student radio station, WWHS, and serves as the H-SC New Media Evangelist and as Associate Web Editor for the Kaleidoscope, the student yearbook.  He is a member of the Society for Collegiate Journalists and the Spanish Club.

A computer science and Spanish major, Jared is a graduate of Queen Anne’s County High School (MD).
